Why Engineering branch doesn't matter for your career in India .

While joining as a student in an Engineering college students remains very cautious in selection of branches many think Mechanical branch is good , some thinks IT & computer science & some wishes to get Engineering in Electronics and communications. But  coming to real world after completing degree it is realized that just selection of branch can't decide your career . This is very controversial statement but there are reasons for it.

1) Job Opportunities in Non Engineering Fields

If you see various sector starting from Banking , Government sector, Public sector everywhere there are Engineers working  at different roles. While in Banking sector in India one need to Qualify IBPS and Bank P.O. exams , every Engeineer can appear and get selected.

2) Software Industry doesn't filter Engineers based on Branches

Number of software companies doesn't bother which branch of engineering candidate belongs to .They Just check basic aptitude, and basic knowledge of Programming which is known to every engineer. CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella is having degree in Electrical Engineering ,Sunder Pichai, CEO of Google is having Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering ,well Known N.R. Narayan Murthy founder of Infosys is having  Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, list is endless which clearly states that Engineer s excel in any field they choose .

3) Startups

Now a days setting up a business is quite easier because of funding from big industry houses. Any business with unique idea and good business plan easily attracts funds. Their have been various cases where Engineering graduates rejected job offers to live their dream of being and Entrepreneur.

4) Limited opportunities in core sector

There is acute shortage of vacancy in core branches for Engineers  . While software industry has offered sufficient jobs to all branches . There is very tough competition for  Electronics, Instrumentation, Metallurgy, Biochemical ,Electrical engineers,  etc.  in the core sector .

5) Opportunities in Civil Services and State PSC

Number of Engineers qualify for Civil services and state PSC exams every year belonging to different branches . Few of them left their prestigious jobs to fulfill their dream of being a civil servant .Here also it doesn't matter which particular Engineering branch you belong to, you need to crack the exam and get selected.

So keeping above points in mind no Engineering student should bother about their branch and career opportunities for that particular branch .

Why India is going to be investment Hub for advance technologies?

Why India Is Going to be Hub for innovations?

It’s obvious that being second most populated country of the world India is big consumer base of the world. Although India is still a developing country, there are various reasons why India is going to be heaven for investors and global hub for innovations:

1.      Low per capita income in India:

As India is still a developing country its per capita income still quite low compared to most of the Asian and European countries.India is at the 144th position in terms of per capita GDP as per reports of 2016 . Thus lobour cost in india is not going to increase rapidly , thus giving fair chance to new investors for investment in India for long term .

2.      India is Youngest country in the World:

Average age of Indians will be 29 years in 2020 , thus there is not going to be any shortage of workforce in India for nearly 30 years.

3.      Hard working Indians:

It is also well established fact that Indians are more hard working compared to  the nationals of other countries and has contributed a lot in world economy.

4.     Shield to Indian Economy from Shocks from external effects:

It is seen in the past that Indian Economy has absorbed various shocks of recession like year 2008 , while many countries suffered a lot . The main reason for that is the availability of huge market for industry, and that opportunity was tapped by Indian Industries to negate the the effect of global recession.

5.      Government’s initiative to compete with the world:

Since 2014 Indian Government has focused on competing to the world in every field by implementing various reforms in Indian economy , required to get global attention like GST, Make in India initiative, huge expenditure in infrastructure development and opening new sectors for foreign investment like food and defense.

6.      Emerging as a Global power

India is emerging as a global power and having good relations with most of the countries in the world except few. India has made a great achievement in the space industry .ISRO is making new landmark every year. India is inviting defense Industry Giants across the world to develop defense equipment's in India for Indian Army and  for selling to other countries as well.

7. Investment in Renewable Energy

Indian to fulfill its commitment to reduce carbon emission is investing huge in renewable energy resources like Solar Energy, Wind energy and also working on electrical vehicle policy. Thus opening doors for investment in these areas. Indias is building big Solar park in Gujarat , Madhya pradesh and other states.

Various other factors like geographical location of India, and other socio-economic conditions are in india’s favour to make best investment destination in the world.

When such a desirable conditions are available in India then nothing can stop India becoming global hub for innovations as well. Govt. of India has shown its clear intention to walk with time . Rapid growth of 4G network and preparations for 5G network are the few example where India has shown that it is going to change very rapidly.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).

TOEFL

TOEFL is the most popular English proficiency exam accepted at North American universities. The full form of TOEFL is Test of English as Foreign Language. TOEFL tests the international students’ usage and understanding of North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. The TOEFL test is developed and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS), which sets the questions, conducts the test, and sends each examinee the score report.

Which Exam is better IELTS or TOEFL?

IELTS is more preferred in UK, Australia, and New Zealand, while TOEFL is popular among applicants to universities in US and Canada. So knowing the required average scores for US universities and average scores for Canadian universities is an important start.

Why IELTS or TOEFL score is required?

Foreign universities and visa granting authorities need to be sure that you will not have communication issues while staying in the country. You need to show a good understanding and strong command of the English language and that is why your overall IELTS/TOEFL scores are so important. Many universities might even not even require IELTS scores for admission purposes. But remember that if you don’t give IELTS, your chances of getting the student visa might suffer as the visa officers may not be convinced about your English proficiency without IELTS scores. So it is safer to appear for IELTS and aim to score at least 6 bands overall.

Eligibilty

IELTS /TOEFL assesses the student’s abilities in all four skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking of the English language in under three hours.

Students are required to be above 16 years of age to be able to appear for the IELTS Exam. While candidates who cleared high school or equivalent can appear for the TOEFL exams.

Students who are applying to study in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand ,and Australia are required to appear for the IELTS exam. Full-form of GRE is Graduate Record Examination. Over a half million individuals take the GRE General Test in over 1,000 test centers in 160 countries every year, and scores are accepted at thousands of graduate programs around the world, for masters and doctoral degrees.

GRE also has subject tests, apart from the basic GRE exam. Each subject test is intended for those students who have a bachelor's degree in the particular disciplines. The subject tests being offered currently are Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Literature, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. GRE is a computer-based test and has a user-friendly design. Individuals applying to graduate schools in order to pursue a Masters of Science (MS) or MBA are required to take the exam

Eligibility for GRE

Candidates who plan to appear for GRE are required to have successfully completed their Undergraduate course to be eligible for GRE. Students can register for the exam irrespective of age and qualification.Whether a candidate requires to appear for his GRE is entirely dependent on the university and the course he is pursuing.

Things to Remember

After getting good score in IELTS/TOEFL and GRE one has to apply in different universities of a country as per choice. Different universities have different cut off score in IELTS/TOEFL and GRE. So you should apply in at least two three universities of preference .

While selecting courses one has to do proper research about language of course .For bilingual courses one has appear for language proficiency test of the country's language (Other than  English Speaking) in which university is situated .

Before going to any country for any Graduate or post Graduate course, proper research is required about Expenditure of study and accomodation and possible source of income like Scholarship and duration of part time work allowed by university.

Proper information about embassy of own country and possible way to contact home in case of emergency .

Why Jobs in Govt sector & PSU is a compromise with career growth

What is a better option A Govt./PSU Job or a Private Job?

While undergoing higher education students dreams of getting good jobs .When time comes to make choice for Jobs most of the people prefers going for a Government Jobs of Public sector Jobs. Although it is a herculean task to get a Govt./PSU Job it offers a very good start to the eligible candidates ,obviously confusing the aspirants.

Why Govt/PSU Job is a Compromise with future for talented Aspirants

While the mindsets for old people is still that getting a Govt./PSU job is like securing  future of you and your family .The scenario is changing rapidly with abolition of pension to Govt./PSU employees recruited after year 2004. Although Govt/PSU jobs are offering very good starting salary compared to most of the private companies ,but the annual growth rate is average and your talent or potential doesn't contribute too much. Not Just the growth rate but there are various others things which are really frustrating in these jobs , few are listed below:

1. Deficit of skilled staff

Due to rapidly changing technological advancements old recruited staff becomes inefficient in the need of proper training and late adaptation by the Govt/PSU sector. Most of the old staff have assured pension benefits and lethargic attitude as well. One can not expect with people with age of 50 years  and above to be as efficient as a young employee.

2. Lack of sufficient administrative powers to the controlling officers

There are administrative powers with name sake with the controlling officers .They can not take any immediate action easily to their subordinates , there are certain protocols or guidelines which are to be followed with personal interests and time consuming. Thus young officers joining as Government servant or PSU officer gets frustrated .

3. No Guarantee of Career growth

Although there are certain guidelines for career growth but number times this is not ensured due to Litigations in the courts by the employees itself. With the implementation of 3rd PRC govt. has shown intent of abolishing rule of pay revision after every 10 years which will be a big blow to the careers of young officers who have sufficient career left in PSU(Public sector Units) companies. To earn revenue Govt. is selling its stake in PSU companies thus opening doors for privatization of PSU's .
While on the other hand in private companies you may get various better offers of Jobs based on your skill and thus providing better career growth options.

4. No stability Due to Transfer

As transfer policy in Govt./PSU is not fully transparent , good people had to suffer sometimes due to frequent transfer at different locations thus no stability of family life and education of children. Although few Govt/Public sector organisations provides facility of education to children of the employees but number such organization is not very high.

5. Very low chance of Further Education once joined

As many people think that after joining in Govt./PSU organization they can pursue higher education and easily get better options in future .But its really very difficult  to get permission for Higher education in Govt./PSU organization due to shortage of staff .

6. No opportunity of On JOB foreign Visit

Its is quite common in private companies to send employees in foreign countries for any project or training, but in Govt or PSU it is day dream to get such a chance .

7. Responsibility without Resources

Its is very difficult to get all the resources timely in Govt/PSU while fulfilling your responsibility. Higher officials always try to evade their responsibilities and held their subordinates for any fault or task failure in the need of proper support or resources. Although it is not the case everywhere .

These are few things which makes opportunities in private companies better then Govt./PSU job but there are different kind of people . Many of us don't want to face regular competitive environment in private companies . For better career growth one need to switch companies and locations . Career growth is very important aspect of Job but quality time with family is one which is very difficult to get in most of the private companies .

In conclusion it can be said selection of Job  is based on  one's priority in the life . If fast career growth and money is the priority then preference should be given to the private Job but if stability and somewhat social security is the motto Govt./PSU job must be the choice.
